here comes the spirit of high summer. They were supposed to have wings but I was really tired. Maybe the wings are just folded up tight for landing.

In the Folklore Thursday Twitter feed I saw this post from Great Uncle Darkly:
“Moss Folk or Wood Wives are female spirits who weave the moss which covers trees. For every tree felled, a Wood Wife dies.”
Then I went walking on the mountain in the woods. Apparently the post stayed with me.

court intrigue of some kind

That’s supposed to be an opossum not a rat. Not that I have a problem with rats, but I do most of these drawings without reference photos.

This is obviously not an iris, but I think it was inspired by all the blooming multi-colored iris I saw on today’s walk
