btw I realize I keep checking “crayon/pencil” as the medium – that’s because I’m using Caran d’Ache water-soluble and non-water soluble crayons almost entirely these days. With occasional touches of Prismacolor Art Stix. When the crayons get down to nubs, I put them into the wells of an ice cube tray and use them  like hard watercolors.
