While on vacation I didn’t try to do much observational painting. Instead, I worked on figuring out how to draw Celtic-style interlace. I’m sure there are books and tutorials, but I needed to occupy my mind and hands, and treating these as a puzzle was soothing and calming. Here are my workpages, and you can see I even got a couple finished that I feel pretty happy with.
I managed just one watercolor on my week of vacation. There has been a lot going on in my life, and I hadn’t realized how exhausted I was, until I arrived and settled in to our cabin. So I gave myself a break, from doing anything that felt even slightly like an obligation. No regrets.
I will likely be away from the computer for most of the coming week. There may or may not be lake vacation watercolors on the return side, or there may be more angsty, messy jobs. Who can tell.
