The very first book I remember reading all by myself was Robert Lopshire’s “Put Me In The Zoo”. I was very proud that I could follow the story, and say all the words. But I was puzzled by this recurring word, which I pronounced “putt”. When it was explained to me, I was aggrieved by the illogic of spelling the english language.
