I started the practice of making a drawing each day in October of 2009.

I try to approach the page with no preconceived notion of what I’m going to do. My worktable has materials out and ready; I try to choose media and colors intuitively, without leaving room for my critical, rational, logical mind to interfere.

Mostly I don’t know what the drawings are ‘about’. Sometimes there is something I’m responding to, but more often the drawings seem like illustrations for stories not yet written, or for which I don’t know the words.

I’ve been publishing the drawings on facebook, and plan to continue to do that. I’m hoping that the blog format will offer an easier way to look at new posts and archives.

So for starters, here’s a drawing which is not part of the ‘daily drawing’ project.
