urge on to adventure

I’ve not been spending nearly as much time in my studio as I think I ought to. But still holding the practice, for whatever that’s worth. It’s worth something to me at least; I’m holding a little space that can expand when I get the time and energy for it. And I still get that hour or so to dream on the paper.

My friend Jeff sometimes sends me pictures of weird creatures. And sometimes I make a picture of what I think they look like, without going back to reference the photo. This odd worm was definitely not wearing a bowtie in the photo, but really seemed to need one.
here’s the photo he sent; to be honest, it’s much weirder and more interesting than I remembered. I may have to try again.

practice drawing chickens, I said. So I took advantage of my sister’s little flock. There may be more chickens to come.
Here’s a chickenicorn from last year, but now with some color. Original post was from Jan. 3, 2022

A social weekend away from home and studio; I didn’t try to do any drawing or painting. Instead I finished crocheting a hat for a friend, and joined in on tie-dying some various things. Sometimes it seems more important to spend open time with old friends than to stick to personal and somewhat isolating commitments.
While driving on one of the local backroads I slowed down for a hen who was deciding whether or not to cross the road. I admired her fat pantaloons atop the skinny little legs as she stepped her way back to her yard. Clearly I need to do a little more observation of chickens, but I guess a fast memory dump at the end of a long weekend away will have to do for now!
