heavy thoughts
ALT: ballpoint pen drawing of a floofy bird sitting with its feet out front and head down, under something that looks like a comic book thought bubble made of rock. there’s an anatomically compromised humanoid propping or stabililizing the top rocks in the bubble.
sleepy gull
ALT: water soluble graphite and crayon. the head of a bird that does somewhat resemble a gull looks sleepy, and is somewhat obscured by scribblings of graphite that has shapes of fish and shells. there might be a moon above.
picnic on green
ALT: ink and watercolor. two beings that could be bugs seem to be sharing beverages and company on a ground of leaves and blue swooshes.
bracken reflection
ALT: watercolor based on a photo of ferns reflected in still lake water. the painting is very loose and sketchy, and I don’t think the actual reflections came off clearly, so I put in an extra dragonfly to make up for it.
blue bird of harpiness
ALT: crayon and ink. a purple winged critter with some resemblance to a pterodactyl possibly threatens a couple of small golden quadrupeds, one of which is hiding behind some green plant thing. gold spots dot the field, and also dot the sky.
night beats
ALT: water soluble crayon, abstract. Crescent moon shape on a blue ground. superimposed are a series of black curved lines descending, like ribs or claws, and a series of red sticks not quite matching up to the pointed ends of the curves. I spent the evening at a concert by EMEFE, a NYC band featuring a boss horn section and many playfully interlaced rhythms.

ALT: mixed media. a grid of 9 rectangles. on a ground of soft curves of color there are masses of calligraphic black ink imaginary writing, and on top of that, the alphabet is painted in bold acrylic colors, outlined in black ink.

I have plans for more layering on this ground before the cards get cut up.
ALT: a grid of 9 rectangles 2.5″ x 3.5″ with some leftover space. watercolor, abstract. loosely colored circles and curves, sprinkled with some numbers and letters. all shapes traced around templates and french curves. I’m just playing.

I’m a month behind on my Artist Trading Cards, so here is my first of two efforts to catch back up.
Stretching out vacation in my mind.
ALT: watercolor page, with a grid of 9 rectangles drawn in pencil, and 3 rows of lake, shore, and distant mountains painted in. I’ll be cutting this into 9 cards to send out to friends in my ATC group; hopefully each rectangle will have something at least pleasantly evocative in it.

I think I must paint this tree every year, or at least take a photo. I like the way watercolors do what they want, and I can’t spend a lot of time worrying about it. (surely more serious artists have a lot more control of the medium, but I enjoy its spontaneity)
