So I’ve self-assigned to do heart-themed art this month, in preparation for the February group show at Harmony Collective Artist Gallery. This pic is me being a little resentful of the assignment. But I need to pay attention to why; I’m trying not to be shy about making pictures that are purposely dorky. I think it’s just that the valentine-shaped heart is so much used, and has such a thick goo layer of familiarity. This one harks back to those grade school paper valentines that some people would give all their classmates, with the corny sayings. I loved and hated them at the same time. The imagery had something so appealing, but they were so cheesy and insincere.
it really is a heart-shaped flower. I really am sticking to the theme.
But also, painting requires more than the 1-2 hours of studio time I’ve been taking lately. I may need to take some time off from the dailies, to finish some things that I’m not happy leaving where they are now.
painting just takes more time. This one may need more work. But I’m loving the richness of colors, and trying to keep the feeling spontaneous and breezy
This was meant to show hearts in it somewhere but I got too invested in the rocks. So let’s just say the hearts are within the rocks that are falling, floating or flying away.
