I actually wanted to do this one with colors (and may still get around to it) but was away from my studio all day with just sketchbook, pencil and pens. Imagine vibrant spring/algae green from the head, desert landscape, and a red/black mass in the being’s arms.

Or, as Hannah Zahn would have it, “Dirt up my nose from mowing dry grass”. She’s a landscape gardener, so she would know.
I’m not sure why herons and cattails crop up for me so often. They have a stillness, an alertness, a feeling of a time before there were humans mucking about on the planet…
