When I learned that modern cladistic analysis clearly nests birds within dinosauria and this means they are extant dinosaurs and so dinosaurs are not extinct unlike what I was taught at school, I was so happy.
I had the same reaction to learning that fact. Somehow the thought that they are part of a continuous line going back to the dinosaurs makes birds more fantastic, and doesn’t make dinosaurs seem more familiar or ordinary
